What is Scientology? The word Scientology comes from the Latin word “scio” meaning “knowledge” and the Greek word “logos” meaning “study of.” It literally means the study of knowledge, or the study of life. Scientology provides knowledge and tools for improving life, such as how to improve relationships, how to reduce stress, how to improve self-confidence, or how to be more successful in life.
Is Scientology a religion? Scientology is a religion because it is about how to improve spiritually, which is what religions are for, but Scientology is non-denominational. In other words, you can be a Christian, a Buddhist, or a Muslim, etc., and still study Scientology. There is no conflict. In fact, many people find Scientology helps them become better Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, etc. It is because Scientology is all about gaining practical solutions to everyday problems of life, such as how to improve relationships, how to get rid of anger, anxiety or emotional pain, or how to increase self-confidence and motivation. When people improve in these, they tend to do better in their own religions, too.
Scientology is about learning knowledge and tools to use in life. You do not need to believe in the tools or the knowledge of Scientology.
